Where Chunmee Comes From

Chunmee green tea has been produced in China for centuries, primarily in the southeastern regions of Jiangxi, Anhui and Zhejiang. For centuries, Chun Mee has been one of China’s largest exported teas, enjoyed across Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. It's commonly enjoyed as an everyday tea rather than something reserved for special occasions. This is because of its straightforward character, Chunmee has remained popular both in China and around the world.

Unlike sweeter green teas such as Sencha or Jasmine Green, Chun Mee has a crisper, more brisk character, which many tea drinkers love for its refreshing bite.

Flavor Profile

Chun Mee is pan-fired shortly after harvest to stop oxidation. The leaves are then hand-rolled into their signature curved shape. This method preserves the tea’s fresh flavor and light color. Chunmee has some great characterictis such as:

  • Light to medium body
  • Mild natural sweetness with a hint of smokiness
  • Slight notes of honey with a tang similar to green apple or plum
  • Clean, refreshing finish

It's smooth without being bland and flavorful without being overpowering, making it reliable choice whether you're new to green tea or already enjoy it regularly.

Why People Choose Chunmee Green Tea

As a green tea, Chunmee naturally contains antioxidants and a moderate amount of caffeine. Many people enjoy it because it:

  • Heart health
  • Immune system function
  • Skin health
  • Mental clarity and focus

Brewing Tips

For the best cup of hot Chunmee:

  • Heat water to 170-175°F (75-80°C)
  • Steep 2-4 tsp of tea for 2-3 minutes

This tea, prepared hot brings forth more of its smoky character but still holds on to its natural sweetness.

Using water that's too hot can bring out bitterness, so keeping the temperature lower helps maintain its smooth flavor. Chunmee also works well as an iced tea, especially in warmer months.

If you decide to try iced, be prepared to enjoy more of this tea's honey notes.

For the best cup of iced Chunmee:

  • Heat water to 170-180°F (about 6 oz)
  • Allow 2-4 tsp of tea to steep  for 2-3 minutes
  • Pour the brewed tea directly over ice. Dilute with more ice until chilled.

Notes: Allow tea to cool after steeping and before pouring over ice to prevent the ice from melting too fast.
